A Review of Selected Factors Affecting Driver Distraction
- 1 Kielce University of Technology, Al. Tysiąclecia Państwa Polskiego 7, 25-314 Kielce, Poland
Man is the most unreliable and at the same time the least understood element in the driver-vehicle-environment system. Many of the factors affecting the driver have been identified in detail. Taking into account the social and mental changes in societies, however, it turns out that what once could be considered harmful, today thanks to new solutions is acceptable. At the same time, due to the dynamics of technological development, new solutions continue to emerge, which, in a situation of improper use, may carry new, hitherto unrecognized dangers in traffic. Therefore, tests related to the determination of factors determining driver behavior are still described in the literature. They are made for different nations, ages and genders of drivers. This article reviews the basic selected factors affecting driver behavior. These factors can directly affect the risk of a traffic collision or accident. While driving, a driver is exposed to a number of stimuli that cause him to become distracted.
