Strived in the contribution to reflect the area of fuel consumption of motor vehicles. It is the consumption that is currently a key issue of carriers as well as individual motorists. Even though the number of road fatalities in the EU was almost halved in the past decade, 34 500 people were killed on EU roads in 2009. Initiatives in the area of technology, enforcement, education and particular attention to vulnerable road users will be key to drastically reduce these losses of life even further. The White paper on transport published in 2011, stresses the critical role played by road safety problem. In terms of regular bus transport in the Slovak Republic (SR), the work of drivers is governed by legislation such as Labour Code, Regulation (EC) No 561/2006 and Act No 462/2007 on the organization of working time in transport. Provisions of Regulation (EC) No 561/2006 are applied to operation of bus lines in excess of 50 km length. In this paper we analyse the European Union air navigation services providers focusing on commercialisation and privatisation, reflection of these processes in chosen performance indicators as well as broader threads of (possible) cross-border acquisitions of ANS providers in Europe using information on NATS privatisation. We conclude the paper findings with statement that prospective cross-border acquisitions of ANS providers in Europe are not feasible mainly from political reasons and therefore the main drivers towards goals of Single European Sky will rest upon the EU harmonisation legislation.
